I have a pair of USB3 drives being mirrored by a pair of USB2 drives. I assume Softraid does not post the i/o complete status until the write is mirrored. Is there a possibly of allowing a form of lazy write, where i/o complete is posted when the fast disk completes?

The way SoftRAID works is to keep things simple as possible, this minimize the chances of problems.
So all writes are sent concurrently so yes, on writes, the slowest disk will slow things down a bit.
We have thought of your question, but it would be best implemented in the event of a version that supports RAID over a network. Perhaps someday.
