RAID 1 replace drives

I have a G-RAID Thunderbolt drive, formatted with SoftRAID to RAID 1 (2 x 2 Tb). The drives have done nearly 40,000 hours, over 4 years, so I'm thinking of replacing them (keeping the enclosure).

1. I presume that I can just swap one of the drives, and the data will get mirrored onto the new one; then do the same with the 2nd drive, in order to keep the data in place?

2. If I wanted to increase the size of the drives, would I be able to do the same thing, or would the mis-match make this impossible? I'm guessing the alternative would be to use some other enclosure for either the new or the old drives and copy the data over after setup. Is that right?

3. Other options? My budget is comparatively small, but I don't want to "buy cheap; pay twice". A pair of 3.5" Hitachi Ultrastars are well within my price range.

Thanks

Certify the new disk.
Initialise with SoftRAID
Pull the old secondary
"Add secondary disk" and let it rebuild
"Set primary disk" to new disk.
Remove other original disk.
Add the second new drive as above.
"Add secondary disk".
When done, "resize volume"
that should expand the volume to the larger size.

Thanks. Just to clarify, I can remove one of the old disks, install a new one, then certify, initialize, add, and rebuild it?

I'm not sure which drive is the primary and which the secondary (in terms of the physical devices in the box). Does that matter?

Primary and secondary are identified in the disks column when you select the volume.

Yes you are going to do the "remove", install, etc.
Certify takes days though, so be aware of that.
