Hello, I'm running RAID 10 with 8 drives. I have 4 sets of 4 drives (A,B, and C). The intent is to rotate offsite/onsite copies. So stripe A is primary, and the mirror stripe is alternated between B and C disks.

I have divided the RAID into 3 logical volumes.

To perform the "swap", I unmount the volumes, physically swap the mirror sets, delete the mirror volumes, add mirror disks.

This is working but I have 2 questions/issues.

1 - Although I have unchecked the SoftRaid preference "Perform rebuilds and validations one at a time", when I swap disks and initiate rebuilds, they run one at a time, the others are "queued". I realize one at a time is probably faster, but wondering why it's behaving seemingly contrary to the preference?

2 - Since the data on the mirror drives is mostly the same, does this help the rebuilds go faster? It doesn't seem to be. I realize I "destroyed" the volumes by deleting them but was hoping the underlying blocks might still be taken into account in rebuilding. Is there a way for this to happen? I'd love to minimize the amount of time my disks remain un-mirrored.

3 - Just FYI, the navigation bar near the top of the forum pages says:
"Home > Support > Fourm" :)

Very pleased with the product so far. Thanks!

You are using RAID 10 in a way we don't officially support. You can do this, but it is not "convenient". All rebuilds have to be 100% rebuilds. We are working on technology to support what you are doing down the road.

If you have unchecked the rebuilds one at a time box, it should indeed to all rebuilds at once. We will take a look at this and make sure it is working as designed.

Thanks for the typo alert, we will address this.

Thank you. Is there any way for me to add the 3rd group as a the third set of a 3-way mirror? Or do all the disks have to be online at the same time to build the RAID that way?
