Hello,

I installed a new SSD hard drive on my iMac (OS 10.14.3) and restored a Time Machine backup to it.

Since that im having issues trying to work with files on SoftRaid volume (XT 5.7.3.). Messages in every kind of app are relating to insufficient permissions on files. Sometimes I can't change them.

The "Ignore Ownership" option doesn't show up on volume information.

Any clue on how can I proceed?

This is a data volume. Ownerships are controlled by the startup volume.

My guess is the admin name changed from the old system to the new one.

My instructions below only apply to DATA volumes. Do not globally apply ownership changes to a bootable volume!

One idea is to set the drive in get info, Sharing and Permissions, to "ignore ownership on this volume". (You need to use the unlock icon to gain access to this)

Also you can try setting Name/Privileges:
Name System Read & Write
Name Admin Read & Write
everyone read only
On the gear icon, pull it down and "Apply to enclosed items"
You can also try to fix this in the same section

You can also use the terminal to fix this, but try the above first. Using the terminal is both powerful and higher risk.

Hello, thanks for the quick response.

I have already tried all that. "Ignore ownership..." option doesn't appear even unlocking and gaining access.

Admin name remain the same, I just stablished it through a direct Time Machine backup.

You can also try running Disk Utility "First Aid" on the volume

Are you willing to try terminal?
You can google it, or we can get your he correct terminal command for "chown"

Hi, Disk Utility says there's nothing wrong in that disk, running it from usual app link. I think it's not neccesary to start it on restart isn't?

I think it's Terminal time. I would appreciate if you can guide me through the correct commands.

Thanks for your attention

the volume looks like it has the correct ownerships.

Here is the next step.

Run the terminal.app

I need the output to this command on several files and the main volume:

ls -als (file name)

You can enter the file by just dragging it into the terminal window and hitting enter.

So get this output from:
Your volume
A folder on the top level of your volume
a couple files that are showing incorrect permissions.

Hi,

The response to ls -als/SoftRaidVolume is:

0 brw-r----- 1 root operator 1, 32 5 feb 13:58 /dev/disk6

I'm unable to obtain response on folder or files (No such file or directory)

We can give you a couple terminal commands to fix this.

The volume is owned by "root", which is abnormal.

Contact us off line support at softraid. We will change all permissions to read write for everyone, since this is a data volume.
