Am I out of luck?

Story: I temporarily disconnected one of the disks because I needed a spare SATA port briefly to erase a hard drive for another computer (long story). Anyway, during this time, I guess the other 3 of the 4 disks got out of sync with the 4th (disconnected disk). Upon shutdown, and reconnection, I was no longer able to get past login prompt. Once logging in the computer would immediately crash. I believe this was due to the fact that the 4th disk was out of sync.

Since this was a RAID5, I believed the best course of action forward was wipe the 4th disk, and rebuild the array. So thats what I did.

Upon adding this 4th disk back into the array and attempting to rebuild, The rebuilding just hung with no progress meter or anything. (I have a theory this might be because my Raid was partitioned into two partitions, but i'm not 100% sure).

As I could not get it to rebuild. I decided to cancel the rebuild and try a reboot. Upon rebooting I was stuck in the same problem as previous, immediately after login the computer would crash until the 4th disk was removed.

So, once again I erased the 4th disk (using a separate computer). Once again I placed it back into the raid array, and once again tried to add it into the array. Only to my Horror! this time I see that another disk is now saying "out of sync".

I have a terrible feeling this means I have now lost all hope of recovering my data.

Is there any way I could at least recover SOME of the data?

Please help.

Connect only the 3 valid disks.

Run SoftRAID. See if there is a valid disk Identifier. If so, you may be OK.
Get Disk Warrior. It should be able to repair the directory.

Thanks for the advice!

Here's what it looks like currently:

And i'm now running diskwarrior:

I'm not sure how to look for a "valid disk identifier" ?

The volumes are disk5 and disk6.

If there was no identifier, then the problem is more difficult. If the volume header is intact, then the volume will always get a "Disk Identifier", even if it is unable to mount at the time.

Diskwarrior completed, and updated the drive's directory, some files lost, drive mounts now. But SoftRaid still reporting that that disk is "out-of-sync"

A disk is missing, see the "missing disk" comment?

This must have been a 5 disk RAID 5 volume?

Where is the 5th disk? Is it connected and just not showing up?
