I use SoftRaid to backup my MacBook Pro disk in its entirety. I use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a complete image of the disk in a folder on the RAID volume. This works fine.
I'm trying to remove the older backups to make space on the RAID volume.
When I delete the entire backup folder some 'system' files/folders cannot be deleted because the "item is in use". After I skip the hundred or so such files the backup folder is almost empty except for directories like 'usr' 'share' 'Library' etc. It does not matter how I delete (e.g. 'delete immediately' vs. send to trash and then empty trash).
None of these are actually in use. "Info" on these files does not show them as "locked".
It is not possible to access these files from the command line so I cannot do "chmod" or "rm" or anything similar.
I've done extensive searches for fixes -- none found.
This is an OS X issue, not a SoftRAID issue, as SoftRAID does not talk to "the file system", only raw bits.
If this is an external volume try get info and check ignore ownership on this volume.
Does that help?
Here is another "tip"
Start up from macOS Recovery by holding down Command-R while your Mac starts up.
When the macOS Utilities window appears, select Disk Utility and click Continue.
In Disk Utility, select the disk that contains the file that you want to delete. Then use the First Aid feature of Disk Utility to repair that disk.
Quit Disk Utility, then restart your Mac and empty the Trash.
If you have Disk Warrior, it may also repair the volume.
