Subject: I keep getting my SoftRAID trial has expired even though I've bought full SoftRAID
I had purchased SoftRAID Lite and after a few weeks decided I needed to upgrade to SoftRAID. I paid my dues for the upgrade and received a new Serial Number.
The Serial Number was entered and I had full access to the added features.... so far so good.
However, every now and then when I fire up SoftRAID or want to use a certain function such as Certify I get a message saying my trial period has expired. What the heck.
So I renter the Serial Number sent to me for SoftRAID and all is well for a period of time.
How can I resolve this issue ?
Thank you.
Sure;
Try "uninistall SoftRAID" from the utilities menu.
then run SoftRAID again after the restart and reenter your license.
Let us know if this does not fix this.
I did as you suggested.
1) Utilities->Uninstall
2) Restarted computer
3) Launched SoftRAID and selected for drivers to be installed
4) SoftRAID appears to be operational
5) Time will tell if the error resurfaces
HOWEVER.... after doing the above I found that what ever 1) did during the Uninstall it has knocked out my system's ethernet drivers.
Nothing I could do would give me my internet connection. I could connect via Wi-Fi so that proved my home LAN router connected to my FiOS modem was operational. I tried using my Apple Thunderbolt-to-ethernet adapter and still no ethernet connection.
Thinking this was a software issue and related to step 1) above I decided to boot up on another Mac OS X system. I did so and my ethernet was operational.
This tells me for certain that performing the SoftRAID Uninstall somehow clobbered my ethernet system software somehow.
I will now have to reinstall my production MAC OS X from an internet recovery process to hopefully get my ethernet system software reinstated.
Please respond as this is a very serious problem if in fact the SoftRAID Uninstall did this.
Thank you.
In my previous post I indicated that after performing SoftRAID Utilities->Uninstall my system (El Capitan 10.11.3 Build 15D21) lost all ethernet access to my LAN. In particular I lost internet access.
I booted to another test system and ethernet was intact.
I shutdown my MacBook Pro8,3 and restarted with Cmd+R to reinstall Mac OS X 10.11.3 from Apple servers. This process simply replaces the OS and leaves all my user data alone.
After reinstalling 10.11.3 my ethernet connectivity was regained.
I launched SoftRAID and it indicated SoftRAID driver not capable with my OS and to download driver that was compatible. I did so and that showed in bottom right corner "SoftRAID v 5.1 - Driver v 5.1".
SoftRAID now spat out a message saying my license had expired and numerous SoftRAID features had been disabled. So I entered my SoftRAID license and that solved that issue. However, in past I keep getting a message saying trial period expired and I have to re-enter my license code again.
This is getting VERY annoying for me, and would like a definitive solution to resolve this issue.
I will post some attachment showing the various message windows displayed as I went through the above sequences.
Attachements....
You need to redo the "uninstall SoftRAID" process again. This was an issue we discovered after shipping, from late changes in El Capitan.
I can also send you a beta link, if you want it, email support@softRAID.com
Nothing SoftRAID does can knock out Ethernet drivers. What MIGHT have happened is this:
When uninstalling or installing the SoftRAID driver, afterwards, we call the OS X "kextcache" command to rebuild the kext cache. (The kext cache is a file that loads at startup that contains all the kext extensions for the OS X install. By loading them into one file, this greatly decreases startup time.) if OS X did not load Ethernet drivers when rebuilding the cache, that could explain this symptom and why reinstalling the update would fix this. This would be an El Capitan bug. I wonder if Apple is aware of it.
I really do not want to perform another Utilities->Uninstall again given the issue I had.
The reinstall of El Capitan 10.11.3 has reinstated my ethernet operations and SoftRAID appears to be running AOK. I'm performing a Certify on a disk that I want completed ASAP, so don't want to disturb that.
Given I now have ethernet back in operation do I really need to redo "uninstall SoftRAID" process again ?
If you are getting message about entering your license, then yes you should.
As I indicated, this ethernet issue was not related to SoftRAID except that SoftRAID refreshes the boot extensions cache after installing/uninstalling.
OK... if the message about trial period expired comes back again I will Uninstall & reinstall SoftRAID as you've advise.
Yes, I saw that Apple fix the ethernet issue with an update fix earlier today. My issue must have happened between the two Apple Security updates that were auto installed today. As I was unaware of this I concluded it was the Uninstall SoftRAID that caused my ethernet issue. I was devastated when I lost ethernet.
Thanks for your help.
