My RAID 5 degraded, replaced disk and started rebuild for 10+ days, still rebuilding. "Time remaining" shows from 40 hours now down to 1 hours something. What's wrong?
I am using SoftRAID 6.0.4 on Big Sur 11.3.1.
Many thanks for any advice.
The reason for taking so long is still unknown to me. Finally it was rebuilt after two weeks. It is a 4x4TB, 12TB RAID 5 volume disk. It has about 4TB data in it, with a big 2TB Photos (Mac) file.
Next time change volume optimization to workstation. The reason it was slow was anytime you are using the computer, rebuilds pause so it does not interfere with your working. I suspect you had optimization set to workstation, or server.
@softraid-support Thanks and noted. I don't think I have been using the computer. On the contrary, I did not use it at all, almost, say less than two hours in the past 2 weeks. Maybe the computer went to sleep and it stopped working... Next time, I may try stopping the sleep mode as well.
