Hi,
I'm trying to do the same thing and getting the same error. However I'm running Softraid 7.0.1 on Catalina 10.15.7
Anything I should to get it functioning properly?
Thanks,
Rob
To resize a volume? you can do that with 6.0.5.
Here is a link. No need to install the driver, just run the app, cancel update, resize, then quit.
SoftRAID 6.0.5

SoftRAID 6.0.5 does not run on macOS 12 or later. So this has been broken for more than a year and the "fix" is to use a very old version of SoftRAID on a very old macOS?
What is the workaround for people who updated their software more than once every three years? How has this not been fixed?
It has not been fixed because the underlying MacOS X-Code development environment changed when we upgraded to use the new version (to better support APFS) and it turns out it requires a lot of time to re-write that part of the code. We have had other MacOS issues to deal with, unfortunately. We expect to have this working in the next release of SoftRAID.
@softraid-support Well, while you're working on that, how can I resize volumes? I plugged my RAID into a Mac running Mojave, installed 6.0.5, including the driver because there was no driver at all on this machine. When I attempt to resize, nothing happens. The logs show the resize starting and then very quickly concluding with "The volume resize command for volume [volume name] completed successfully." Except that it didn't. The volume size is unchanged. So 6.0.5 says it works, but apparently doesn't.
Tried it with 5.8.4 too. Same behavior, whether in demo mode or licensed. Either SoftRAID crashes (command 93, error 50 or something like that) or it instantly "finishes successfully" without doing any work. So I guess resizing volumes has never worked? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Attach a SoftRAID tech support file. I can try to see why. I have an idea.
Yes resize worked all the way up until 6.0.5. My guess is this is not an HFS volume, but lets see.
Sorry @softraid-support, I'm new to the forum and anticipated I'd get a email notification when there was a reply to my query.
I don't have any hardware with a TB3 port running an OS older than 10.12. (I'm using softraid with a Thunderbay Flex 8.) So that's not an option for me.
When might softraid 8 be released? Will v8 have both the ability to resize volumes and add a disk to raid 5 volume?
Thanks,
Rob
We are trying to get this bug fixed. I cannot tell what version of SoftRAID it will be in, however. there is a chance this fix will be in a spring release of SoftRAID, but it depends on so many other factors. Until it is actually working in a beta, I can't tell you what version of SoftRAID or when, it will be fixed, sorry.
I assume you do not have access to anything on Big Sur (macOS 11), either?
I apologize for this bug.
I think the ability to add drives to a RAID 5 is at least 6 months away. Its a highly requested feature, but technically complex, as we have to support all permutations of hardware, and not expect only Thunderbay's.
I don't immediately have access to Big Sur, but could do in the near future. How would that help?
Thanks for the run down on version releases / features.
You would just connect to the Big Sur system. Install the 6.0.5 driver, resize the volume, then go back to this system. (Uninstall SoftRAID on the Big Sur system, after you are done, so you don't get expired notices on that system)
