The Mini M1 you need to go it via holding the power button to get to internet recovery mode, then in terminal, csrutil enable.

I have not seen this before, no, it is a directory issue apparently.

I see one instance on the internet thinking it is a launch services issue. try resetting it:

sudo find /System/Library/Frameworks -type f -name lsregister -exec {} -kill -seed -r \;

And now, after the manual restart, everything is fine, folders are folders with content, performance is good but just for the next few hour, untill the next kernel panic or other. we will see

I did not think it was SoftRAID, but good that resetting launch services fixed this.

...and what shall i say, the mac almost freezed after 1 day and 50 minutes. Brand new M1 MacMini, installed Software Kerio Connect, ARQ Backup Carbon Copy Cloner works since years on i7 and M1 Macs withg BidSur the only new thing is Softraid b13.

the softraid i/o counter freeze. i have access to a connected lacie tb2 volumen but not to the softraid 10 tb3 volumen.

if i use the terminal for copying one file from the ssd to the lacie, nothing happens at the lacie (Mail_Data). and the mac slows down for 10 Minutes or more.
cp /Volumes/SSD_Daten/Kerio_Archiv/2020-Sep.1.zip /Volumes/Mail_Data/
The filesize is 1 GB.

The change is, it doesn't happen a restart after a while, i only have no access to the softraid volumen.

An Idea?

Thx Dirk

Your english is pretty good, but I am unclear on one thing:

Did you indicate that this hang writing to the volume is fixed after a restart?

When you do a finder copy do you see anything written to the System Log?

I do not know what would cause this yet, generally SoftRAID volumes are 100% functional, or not available. They would not sit there and hang not performing IO's to the volume, so this is strange.

thanks, let me know.

Hehe, ok - yes, ok. it is fixed after a restart, for few hours.

This is the system log during a i made a finder copy - 5 minutes ago.

@softraid-support by the way, the Mac restarts few minutes ago with kernel panic. here the Log:

panic(cpu 3 caller 0xfffffe0024179e30): watchdog timeout: no checkins from watchdogd in 303 seconds (9198 totalcheckins since monitoring last enabled), shutdown in progress
Debugger message: panic

@blaufix

I cleaned up the thread by putting the system info into attachments.

The panic is a "watchdog" kernel panic, generally a time out somewhere, I usually see if when there are too many disks connected at shutdown. (macOS is flushing the disks' cache, and crashes when it takes too long)

Can you attach a SoftRAID tech support file, also?

I'm wondering if there has been any progress or updates on the kernel panic situation.

I'm moving my ThunderBay over from my late 2014 5K iMac to the new Mac Studio (M1 Max). After a bunch of trial and error and research, I finally figured out how to install the SoftRaid drivers (allowing kernel extensions, authorizing the publisher, etc.). Unfortunately, within 5-10 seconds of connecting my ThunderBay (or, if already connected at boot, shortly after logging in) there is a kernel panic and my machine restarts. The drive appears in the SoftRaid window, the drive icon appears on the desktop, and then a couple seconds later the machine restarts.

I'm running Monterey 12.3.1 and SoftRaid 6.2.1.

Any suggestions short of getting another external drive, moving everything off of the ThunderBay, reformatting it as RAID 4 (I think it's currently RAID 5, but can't connect to it long enough to see), and then moving everything back onto it?

My knowledge in this area is limited.

Thanks!

We are waiting for Apple engineering, that has not changed.

Two additional pieces of information:
RAID 5 64k Stripe unit size avoids the issue also.

Waiting 5 minutes or so before connecting the drives helps a majority of users.

Moved from older MacPro to new Studio and have the same issue.

running SoftRaid 6.2.1  and Monterey 12.3.1 - tried all the fixes - un install and re-install

Get a Panic after about 30 seconds of plugging in the drive.

Here is the report:
