Thunderbay 4 (not mini)

I had four drives running just fine but, as reported on SoftRAID.com as a common issue, I had a random disconnection happen a few times. The last time really did it.

Since then, my raid 1+0 now appears as TWO volumes. One volume is OK but "missing disks" the other volume is missing disks and "out of sync". Now, every time I mount my Thunderbay, I get pop-ups saying "don't worry, an automatic rebuild has started". So I wait 14 days and not only has NOTHING happened but the drive access lights have been doing absolutely nothing for that whole time.

I can't remove the two disks from either volume. The out of sync volume no longer even mounts. The I/O requests haven't moved by even ONE in two weeks. I can make the lights flash and that increments the I/O requests but other than that the two hard drives appear to be toast.

I've read that if the drive can't be mounted by Mac OS then SoftRAID can't do anything with it. So...SoftRAID is there to help you rebuild your RAID...in the event that nothing goes wrong with your RAID? I'm at a loss. I spent all of three months organizing 48TB all to waste.

Please attach a SoftRAID tech support file, I can check what is happening.

Bare with me. It has been generating that support file for about eight-hours now.

Otherwise, is it normal for the bay or driver to do something in the background that can't be monitored or give feedback? The drives seem to be clicking around but the lights in the front don't react, the I/O count never increments, and Activity Monitor shows 0 I/O and 0 MB/s.

@girlyman

It only takes a couple minutes to generate a support file, so restart and try again.

Let me know if MacOS tells you the volume is damaged and mounted read only
