here's how the issue happened:

  • disk A failed and so i bought a new drive, and installed it through softraid (replace failed disk, initialize, rebuild)
  • as the drive was rebuilding, there was a kernel panic with my m2 macbook pro.
  • now the drive will not mount and cannot continue rebuilding.

please advise. i do have diskwarrior and wondering if i should use that to rebuild the directory and then see if it'll mount? i don't want to do that if it will interfere or mess up with what softraid is doing to rebuild after replacing the failed disk. i've installed the support disk file after realizing it can't mount the drive.

Yes, Disk Warrior will be your friend here. Use the latest version, but it should have no problem repairing the volume directory
