If you disable that automation and restart, what happens?

We do not have any feature in SoftRAID that uses/requires automation.

Engineering says this will be very time consuming to debug.

Recommends if I cannot figure this out, that you start installing apps into your clean system, until it happens or does not. Internally we think it is a MacOS preference/setting.

Its frustrating, but I cannot get engineering time scheduled for this, as it is kind of a "one off". We are working on an important upgrade and that has top priority.

that is not connected to the license issue. the pause you see is the SoftRAID App calling up the license server for activation, not getting a response.

I imagine the disks are being re-scanned by SoftRAID when the attempt fails.

I disabled that automation and restarted and the behavior of not being able to activate still remains.

When you say "Internally we think it is a MacOS preference/setting", does that mean if I change a certain preference in the MacOS that will potentially fix this? In other words....for example.....I change my wallpaper preference and then restart and check that could fix the problem? I use the wallpaper example knowing that's extremely unlikely but it's an easy thing to do.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of preferences, and this has to be related to networking. So, no, I don't think you can change a random preference to fix this.

That's good to know. I won't play around with things I know nothing about.

@softraid-support One thing I don't understand is when I check for an update I get the following "No Updates Available". Doesn't that mean Softraid is communicating with the Softraid servers? It seems strange that would connect but not when I enter my activation code/serial number.

Different "code paths".
the check for updates is a totally different address than the license server. But it is a good point.
Let me see if I can get you the ip address, maybe you can try pinging it.

The IP address changes, but try this in the terminal.app:
ping

You can cancel with command . or quitting terminal.

this will just see if your Mac can reach the server.

This is what I got by pinging that IP Address.

ping

PING xx.xxx.xxx.xx : 56 data bytes

64 bytes from 52.237.130.0: icmp_seq=0 ttl=111 time=48.728 ms

27 packets transmitted, 27 packets received, 0.0% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 46.498/49.186/51.473/1.468 ms

This proves that your computer can reach the License Server. Now to figure out what blocked it. At least we know it is in MacOS.

How should I approach the situation now.

Here is all I can offer:
1) we would need a clone of your system. (We could ship a drive to clone it). Then we can investigate. Without having the system, there is no way to figure out what is happening.

2) On your clean install, start installing all the utilities you have one by one, until you find the culprit. Again, tedious. But without a "smoking gun" this is a really hard thing to figure out.
