Hello! I have a OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad with SoftRAID on Sequoia.
As soon as I mount this volume, the drives spin down, then they immediately spin back up one drive at a time: Drive A, then B, then C, then D, repeat.
I've read here that the issue is probably an OS X sleep bug, so I installed Amphetamine and enabled Drive Alive. This seems to keep the drives running. Yay!
Even with this bug, is it normal for spin-ups as happening sequentially instead of concurrently? I want to confirm that this is expected behavior.
NO this is not correct, when drives spin down from macOS, they all spin down. I don't think I have ever seen your behavior. there is no "reason" for A B C D spin downs, either, as the 4 slots are not dependent on each other. If you move A to D, does D spin down first (the drive in first slot)?
Does this behavior happen if only 2 drives are in enclosure? (say first last slots)
When I swap the drive order, it usually follows A, B, C, D (as apposed to enclosure left to right). However, other times it is random and erratic.
Here is a video with the drives in their usual configuration. Note the blue power LED switches from hibernating, to off, to on -- this makes me feel like it's a controller problem.
History: about a month ago this RAID had a random shutdown (when I disconnected a different Thunderbolt drive), and the RAID never mounted again. Duane helped me via email support and suggested to reformat the RAID, which I have done, and this problem has surfaced a month later.

Strange behavior. How old is this enclosure?
It's a little over a year old and I've barely used it.
Problem is some of these units only have a 1 year warranty, unless you purchased with drives, then it is three years.
