I'm using a few OWC Thunderbay drives...some are the original Thunderbolt 1 connections and recently i have an 8 bay and 6 bay using the new USB C connection. I also have several Mac Computers running DIFFERENT OS on them.

Computer 1 is: 2017 Imac Pro running OS 15.4

...on this computer i have installed softarid 8.5  - Everything runs perfectly

Computer 2 is a 2025 MacMini running OS 15.4

....i have not installed Softraid on this computer....

My question is this:  is it required that i install Softraid on my MacMini in order to read one of my raid volumes? and is it just plug and play?

...question 2: i think i need to install Softraid for it to now MONITOR my thunderbays to check for possible disk errors...and predict failures...is that correct?

Basially i need to install Softraid on all my computers to utilize predictive failures and build new Volumes yes?

thanks for the help....

Yes, your enclosures are "plug and play" when it comes to mounting on any MacOS system. We also offer SoftRAID Standard, which has limited features, but lets you have the App to check your systems.

SoftRAID Premium is needed for getting tech support, and for changing your volumes, automatic monitoring, email notification, and all the other advanced features of SoftRAID.

If you move your enclosures from computer to computer frequently, a single seat may get you by. You can manage them from a single computer. Or, we offer "additional seats" at a discount.

We are trying to be flexible to users requirements.

Thanks for the quick reply....

...that leads me to my next question which I believe you may have gotten into.

I already purchased a subscription for one seat....I really don't want two seats...BUT...I want the protection of Softaraid on both computers...and I seem to have to sign in and out to allow Softraid to work on each computer. So I was unaware of a version to use on my other computer to allow Softraid to protect it. But I also do not know where I find this. Can you assist?

...my next move today was to call customer support, but your help may be faster AND help others with the same predicament.

@johnnyfriday

Purchase SoftRAID Standard, which is free. It has limited features, but gives what you want.

Ok...it REALLY took some digging to locate SOFTRAID STANDARD. Here is the current link: https://software.owc.com/product/softraid-8-standard/

sure took a ton of time to find that....should be on the downloads page listed as STANDARD...

@johnnyfriday

There is no product called SoftRAID standard!
You "purchase" a Standard license and enter it. There is only one version of the SoftRAID application. Sorry you felt you had to dig around for it.

@johnnyfriday Hello

I really need to setup a RAID for this week-end, but as the OWC web site is down, I have no way to download the V 8.x installation file (I'm on Sequoia). Unfortunately the Support phone never answer my calls.

You may still have the dmg file on your computer ? Would you mind to send it to me ?

Thanks

Clément

@clem

Try to avoid double posting, it makes it confusing for others. Thanks for your patience and glad I could send a link to download 8.5.

Normally we keep a permalink at softraid.com/sr, but that is also temporarily down.
