Softraid 6 upgrade, downgrade back to Softraid 5?
Hi, I'm currently using Softraid 5.8.4 on macOS 10.14 Mojave. I see the website has an option to download a free trial of Softraid 6. If at the end of the trial, if I decide to downgrade back to Softraid 5, I was wondering what the process is.
1. Would I need to uninstall Softraid 6 and its driver and reinstall softraid 5?
2. Would any RAID volumes that I created with Softraid 6 still work with Softraid5?
On another note, I'm running macOS 10.14 Mojave and am holding off on upgrading to macOS Catalina or Big Sur because there are some 32 bit apps I'd still like to run. Is there a benefit to upgrading to Softraid 6 if I'm running Mojave? Is it worthwhile to upgrade to Softraid6 so I can convert my HFS+ RAID volumes to APFS to benefit from the newer file systems supposed better reliability?
Your step 1 is correct, just uninstall driver from 6.0, and run 5.8.4 and install that version. All your volumes will work in either version.
We do not support conveting HFS to APFS yet, that will take some time. As of today, there is not a major benefit to upgrading to 6.0 from Mojave, but we will be adding a lot of features in the next year to give you great value. thanks!
Tried that, I'm back at 5.8.4 again, but still with an Evaluation Only label. I do have a license for 5!!!
What should I be looking for? There are plenty updates on my computer, the oldest one is SoftRAID 5.0.2 dating August 14, 2014. What can I do to lift the Evaluation ban?
PS I bought the software from Kagi on September 19, 2014
I finally found my serial number, and 5.4.8 is now running again. However, after a while it kept stalling saying:
An internal part of the SoftRAID application has stopped functioning properly. Please quit SoftRAID and relaunch it.
It doesn't seem to be fully stable yet. Let's see what a good night sleep can do...
