This version 5.1 features state that you can install El Capitan on soft raid volumes and that MacOS recognizes them as bootable drives, the El Capitan installer is not showing my soft raid disc as a a bootable drive.

It should show all available volumes as installable.
Is your SoftRAID disk in GUID format (or the older APM format from PPC days)?
What if you use "repair disk" with Disk Utility on it, is there a problem noted?
Is this a current bootable volume?
If there is no data on it, delete it, recreate it and try again.

Thanks for the reply. The problem was I hadn't made a new volume on the disc after initializing it (Doh!) It's working now.
Thanks!
