Hi,
I am using an iMac on os 10.11. If my mac crashes, has a kernel panic and reboots, upon reboot, softraid reports my volumes have no errors, and doesn't validate or synchronize the volumes. Is it necessary for me to manually validate my volumes? Is the softraid driver running at a very "low level" so that operating system crashes are unlikely to cause data corruption?
I am wondering because when on my windows machines, I am using Windows 7's built in Drive Mirroring (software RAID). Whenver my windows PC would crash, upon reboot windows would automatically "resynchronize" my mirrored volumes. This process took 6-8 hours for 2TB of data

That is the difference between SoftRAID and Windows RAID. the SoftRAID volume either did not need rebuilding, or the rebuild happened so fast, you were not aware of it.
You can validate a volume at any time, no harm done. Its not a bad safety measure. The SoftRAID driver tries to ensure that all bits are in sync with each other and can take advantage this this when a crash happens.
