Hi,
Almost each time after I reboot my iMac I get i/o errors on all disks connected to a JBOT external case from Orico 5-bay USB.
When I do a verify all is ok each time. The array is 4xRAID5 and one single disk for Timemachine backup.
On the same iMAC an OWC QUAD is connected with 4xRAID5 and there is no report of i/o errors at all. Both cases are connected through USB-C directly to the iMAC to USB-A.
Is there something I can do to prevent the i/o errors?
Regards,
Peter
Try a new USB cable. SoftRAID is the messenger here. You can look at the errors in the log, perhaps also the enclosure is not supplying enough 5v current to wake the drives up at once. Maybe try one drive, and another time try 4 and see if that makes a difference.

Any name brand cable, just try a different one. see if changing the cable makes a difference.

Jan 22 09:08:33 - SoftRAID Driver: A SoftRAID disk (disk7, SoftRAID ID: 7974706D652F7271) previously encountered a read or write error. This disk should be replaced.Note this is a report on a prior event. You need to look in the SoftRAID log for the actual error. (filter for "offset" and it will reduce the entries and you can see when this happened. I suspect this was a one time event, not a continual set of errors.
I have swapped out the USB cable with the original cable wich came with the OWC QUAD case I have connected also but a shutdown (power off) and swich on the iMac does still give i/o errors.
Sequence starting from a running iMac:
1. unmount all external filesystems & switch off cases
2. Swapped USB cables
3. Power up OWC QUAD & Power up ORICO cases (automount filesystems)
4. Still getting i/o error popups from last time.
5. Clear i/o errors in SoftRaid
6. Shut down iMac (power off)
7. Poweron iMac
8. Boot into MacOS
9. SofRaid Popups with i/o errors on all disks from the IRICO case.

This is only in the log?
Are you getting User dialog boxes alerting you?
I have swapped the cables and now the error reporting is on the other RAID device (OWC).
I think I have narrowed it down to the cable indeed.
Thanks.
Good work!
