Problem Expanding RAID 5 Volume Capacity
I had a RAID 5 volume with four 2TB drives, giving me a 6TB volume capacity.
I successfully went through the procedures to change the volume to four 6TB drives, expecting a new volume capacity of 18TB, but the 're-size volume' window says the maximum capacity of the volume is still 6TB.
I can find no way past this point. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
What OS are you running?
You need to use the "resize volume" command. However, this is not working correctly in 6.2.
I can send a link to an older version if you are on Big Sur, Catalina, or older.
Big Sur, 11.6.1
I feel that you folks have neglected your customers' trust. You talk a lot about how important backing up is, with which I agree; I have an entire backup workflow that is based on OWC RAID enclosures and SoftRAID. As the amount of data increases, resulting in more backup capacity needed, I must add disk capacity to the backup volumes and resize them.
You have apparently decided that the resizing function is not important ("not many people need to resize volume"), so now I'm left hanging with data backed up in only one location and nowhere to turn if I have a problem -- naked, so to speak, or at least half-naked.
I urge you to give a high priority to the resizing function.
