I'm seeing up a new "OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad Four-Bay External Drive Enclosure with USB" to be populated by four 2 TB 3.5" drives. I'll be creating a RAID 5 - computer is MacBook Air (M1 - 2020) At this point I intend to use the "External Drive Enclosure" simply as a large EHD - External Hard Drive. What are the Pros / Cons of creating any particular number of Volumes?

These days, there is little reason to hard partition your drives into multiple volumes. Only if you have a specific need, like creating a RAID 0 for Library files and RAID 1 for data.
Keep it simple and one volume should be best.
