SoftRAID or Disk Utility for Non-Raid Volumes

Greetings. I used to use SoftRAID 3 'back in the day', and I was very happy with it. So when I again needed a software RAID solution, the choice was very easy. I have purchased and installed SoftRAID 5.5 Lite and the driver on my MacMini (mid-2011 server) and am now doing several certifications. Great new feature BTW.

I have some big disks to RAID 1, but just for extra piece of mind, I am backing up, certifying, and restoring some smaller non-RAID disks. So now that the first one is done, how to best format the volumes?

Is there any advantage to using SoftRAID to create the volumes vs. creating the volumes in Disk Utility? Thanks in advance.

The main advantage for using SoftRAID non RAID volumes is error tracking.
The SoftRAID driver tracks all disk errors on disks it controls, while Disk Utility generally ignores errors and does not alert the user. So a SoftRAID controlled disk is more likely to report problems before a catastrophic failure.

There are no significant performance differences.
