Hi there,

today the OWC ThunderBay mini stopped working while running DiskWarrior (step 10 on finalising). SoftRAID showed a disk failure for all 4 ssd disks simultaneously. After that SoftRAID get’s unresponsive and macOS freezes with beachball.

Luckily I have restored from a backup to another OWC ThunderBay mini. So back to normal.

The same issue occurred to me 9 months ago. Before that I was running DiskWarrior too. It's kind of strange coincident. DW is a great and trustworthy app. So the question, then, arises: Does DW break SoftRAID volumes? Any known issues? It's possible but unlikely that 4 disks fail at once. All Samsung SSD disks have been certified multiple times successfully - No i/o errors.

# More details:

SoftRAID: 5.7.5, macOS 10.12.6
OWC ThunderBay mini, RAID 4
Original Apple Thunderbolt 2 cable
2x 1TB Samsung EVO 850, (6000 hours of use)
2x 1TB Samsung EVO 860, (2900 hours of use)

Possibly the Samsungs are pulling more power than the enclosure is specified for. Disk Warrior does not cause this, its more likely the trigger when intensive activity happens on the bus.

Depending on how old the Mini is and the age of the Samsungs, some of these SSD's pull a little too much power. I suspect that is the trigger here.
