It has been nine months since the last person asked if volume encryption (FileVault 2, specifically) was supported on SoftRAID volumes.
At that time, the "SoftRAID Support" moderator replied, "OS X's encryption tool does not support third party volumes", and "we would like to find a solution or alternative."

I understand and appreciate the technical challenges involved.

As no subsequent support for encrypted volumes has been announced, and given your responses above, I have the following questions:

1. Would you please describe ANY substantial work you are currently doing to find a solution for volume encryption on SoftRAID redundant volumes?

2. Have you tested readily-available COTS products or Open-Source solutions (such as GNU Privacy Guard) to see if any of these provide a workable solution? If not, will you conduct a test of credible candidates?

I have sensitive data that must be stored on redundant volumes. I do not want to abandon the Mac or your excellent RAID software in order to adequately protect this data. Please HELP FIND a credible option, instead of, "we would like to find a solution or alternative."

The short answer is we are working with the APFS team to ensure SoftRAID will work with APFS correctly, and a part of that solution, support encryption on APFS volumes.

There is no way to make SoftRAID work with the current Apple technology.

We are not writing our own because of FIPs regulatory issues that would make it prohibitively expensive.

We have not tested open source solutions. We have tested sparse images which seem to work.

APFS is the best option, and will be available for mass release some time this year. We hope to be ready whenever Apple is. We already have test versions of APFS in house.

Thank you for your detailed response. It is good to know that your company is actively working to develop a solution.
