I/O Error on 2 disks after disk Certify

Hello,

Just wondering why I get I/O errors after a thorough disk "Certify" and result has no issues?

Mac M1, Big Sur, RAID 1, drive connected on CalDigit TS3.

Volume label with issue: A 4 TB RAID 1

Attached the report.

Thank you!

There is an IO error on your disks. If you clear the IO errors, then launch SoftRAID do you get a new error? (in the disk tiles)

The error indicates your USB is not reliable. Do you have a different cable you can try? If it is not the disks, then cables are likely. Or your USB hub?

Are these two drives in the same enclosure?

I cleared the IO errors and relaunched SoftRAID. No new errors.

My USB hub Caldigit TS3 also has other SoftRAID volumes/drives and they don't emit any IO errors.

Yes, the 2 drives are on the same OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual enclosure.

Hopefully no more. Interesting that the errors happened at different times, both apparently after opening the SoftRAID Application. When you launch SoftRAID, it sends a flurry of IO to all disks, to gather data. That is likely when the IO (communication) errors occurred.

@softraid-support IO errors would get detected during the "Certify" process, correct?

So you would recommend to replace the USB cable?

Disk errors would show up in certify, generally. These are more communication errors. A cable is an easy thing to test.
