I am seeking assistance with an issue involving my Thunderbay 4 mini populated with Samsung SSDs in a stripe configuration. This setup has been running reliably for about five years.
At boot-up, SoftRAID reported a read disk error. Upon rebooting, the error reappeared, but on a different disk. I cleared the I/O errors and ran First Aid on the entire volume in Disk Utility, which initially seemed to resolve the issue. However, when I attempted to copy a folder onto a different drive, the I/O errors returned. So far I tried swapping out the cable, and physically moving the disks around.
While I initially suspected a failing disk, the errors are appearing across multiple disks which has got me suspecting that its an issue with the enclosure. Please let me know the best next steps to troubleshoot this.
Here is what I recommend:
Backup. Delete the volume
certify all 4 drives. (3 passes)
It won't take long on these drives. See if they pass. Send a new support file and lets see what it shows.
@softraid-support Thanks for the help. The drives were certified successfully. Support file attached.
They appear to be healthy!
@softraid-support is the enclosure at fault? Multiple io errors seems suspicious. Is there anyway to test it?
