The issue is in the title. I just updated to (non-beta) Sonoma and can no longer use SoftRaid, despite an email from OWC dated February 1, 2023 that says I have a SoftRaid 7 XT upgrade that 'never' expires. Unfortunately the app is complaining that my support plan expired on May 8, 2023 when I launch 7.6. Is this in error? I'd like to upgrade so I can check the status of my drive. I'm balking at paying another $119 to manage hardware I've already paid for, and for access that only lasts single year, because MacOS will undoubtedly be upgraded in the future.
When you purchase SoftRAID we offer free upgrades and support for 12 months. After that, to get additional upgrades, yes you need to renew support so you qualify for all upgrades. While your XT never expires, it will not work on new macOS versions.
MacOS changes under the hood dramatically every year now, and this helps us maintain support and compatibilty going forward. Generally support is $79, but when your support expires long enough, its is like purchasing a new license.
If you purchase an enclsure with drives bundled from us, you get 3 years of free support + upgrades.
You will note however that your data remains available, you are not cut off from your data, but to manage your volume, you need to renew your support.
It is the way it is going forward. My new car requires similar subscriptions to maintain what I considered to be standard features, my router for internet the same. Everything. Its the new reality.
