I have several file shares I use from my iMac running latest Sonoma public Beta and the Latest Softraid 7.6 B12 ... it appears I cannot mount any file shares I export which are based on Softraid volumes. This worked with out issue under Ventura. I was able to export an SMB directory from my mac's local disk to my remote device with out issue. When I fails I get an "unexpected error" when trying to mount it. I tried this on other devices too with no better results. I am not sure why but it appears to be specific to Softraid volumes. Any ideas?
The main difference is SoftRAID volumes are marked as removable. Can you test your scenario with a Thumbdrive? (Apple formatted as APFS for example)
Ok. thanks, Same issue for a APFS formatted usb device... guess it is a Sonoma issue. Will report it then. Thanks for a timely follow up.
I have found a workaround or may be I was not using SMB File sharing correctly , I suspect there is a bug in Sonoma, but by disabling Windows file sharing in the SMB File sharing menu by unclicking the option, I am now able to see the contents of the APFS formatted shared drive ... thanks to Softraid for listening again :)
This is definitely a MacOS bug, lets hope it is fixed before release.
I am having this problem with soft raid volumes in Softraid 7.6 and the release version of Sonoma. I checked and no users are set for windows SMB file sharing in the file sharing preferences. Any fixes?
Did you try specifically sharing the volume (+volume)? Or sharing any folder inside the volume?
@softraid-support Yes - I tried adding both volume and folder in file sharing. It still says it can't find it. If I share the boot volume, that is able to be seen.
I have a Sonoma installation here. (both intel and M2)
Set up File sharing. Clicked "i" (info button)
added the R5 volume with +
logged in over WiFi from another computer running Monterey
shares all volumes, including RAID 5 volume.
What are you seeing different?
That is how I set up the drive on the source volume - file sharing - info button - share volume. But when I try to mount from another Mac (running Sonoma) it says "The Item Cannot be Found".
@softraid-support Ok - I had shared both volumes and specific folders. I think I fixed it. It seems to have been a permissions issue. I applied file sharing permissions to the affected volumes and folders in the sharing section of control panel. Turned off file sharing. Restarted. Turned on file sharing. It seems to be working now for my soft raid volumes that are shared. Thanks for the help!
You are not the only one to be impacted by this bug. Glad it is working!
