Hi,

I'm wondering why my volume starts to rebuild every time after reboot. I have RAID 4 with 4 HDDs using SoftRAID 5.7.2 running on MacOS Mojave 10.14.1. Also SoftRAID is reporting missing disks after reboot. I had "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" checked, but it's now un-checked.

I can't replace HDD3 because rebuilding is never completed.

Volume:
LR_mirror - RAID 4, degraded, no errors, rebuilding

Disks:
HDD1 - no errors, parity
HDD2 - no errors, data
HDD3 - disk failure predicted, data
HDD4 - no errors, out-of-sync, rebuilding

Is there rebuild activity? (IO counters incrementing)
What if you have optimization set to workstation?

Are you getting any alerts from Mac OS that the volume is damaged?

Rebuilding is active and current offset is updating. ~1 hour left.
Optimize is set to Server, but it doesn't have any affect.

MacOS is happy and didn't show any errors. Only messages are shown after reboot by SoftRAID.

Did the rebuild complete? Then after completing the rebuild and restarting, does the volume need a rebuild after a restart?

Its possible your failing disk is taking too long to startup.

What if you do this:
SoftRAID preferences: Mirror tab.
Set the Mirror timeout to 2 minutes.

then see what happens when you restart.

I set Mirror timeout to 2 minutes and rebooted and got following error message boxes after boot:
Volume Missing Disks
Volume Out-Of-Sync
Disk Predicted to Fail Based On SMART Data

And rebuilding started again and I waited until rebuilding finished. Interesting is that even SoftRAID said Rebuild Completed, it's still showing that HDD4 is out-of-sync and volume is degraded and needs to have rebuilding started.

My disks doesn't have I/0 errors. Only disk3 have 1 relocated sector, but no i/o errors.

I decided to run certify for all 4 disks and replace disks with issues if there is any problems. I generated Tech Report before I started certify. Should I send that to Support?

Send us a support file to support at softraid.

While it appears you have a bad disk, maybe something else is faulty also.
