@macsupport

Attach a SoftRAID tech support file, so I can take a look at what you have.

The volume has no "BSD disk identifier", so MacOS cannot mount it. I suspect a "glitch" with USB, likely during the update to the last Tahoe, damaging the volume headers. USB can have issues like this, its not as solid as the Windows USB implementations.
You have no choice  but to delete the volume and recreate it. Sorry

@softraid-support No, worries, that is why we have backups.

Can Support provide a list of new features in 8.6?  In particular, I'm wondering if my issue regarding return codes from the command line tool has been addressed.

@wfiveash

We do provide release notes when the final version is released, and in the beta version read me files

Your issue regarding terminal commands was not yet addressed in 8.6

I Deleted the volume, and re-created it in SoftRAID. But the same thing is happening again. After a restart, it says unmounted and will not mount.

Did you try a different USB cable, perhaps?
I see lots of these entries in the log:
2025.09.15 - 08:14:08 - SoftRAID Driver: The SoftRAID volume "TimeCapsule RAID, TimeCapsule RAID" (disk71) encountered an error (E00002C1). A program attempted to read or write to a volume which was not open.

This may indicate a hardware error, and since this is repeating, with newly created volumes, its most likely a USB issue. My first guess is cable, and if not, are we sure the enclosure is OK?

@softraid-support It is a OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad. I'll try a different USB cable. Do I need to delete the volume again?

@macsupport

Or, since it is APFS, erase the volume with Disk Utility. Once it won't mount, it is not likely to mount with just a new cable

@softraid-support Oddly, it just shows a JBOD in Disk Utility. The Volume isn't listed.
Also, is there a way to run a diagnostic of the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad?

You are right. I missed that there is no BSD number.
There is no simple way to test the enclosure. You can certify the disks, making sure they pass, which is an indirect test of the box, as all the drives, even if healthy, should pass the certify and if it fails, especially 2 or more, then you have a faulty enclosure.

But ore likely is the cable, they are a common cause of issues.

@softraid-support I replaced the USB-C cable and it still exhibited the same behavior. But taking your cue, I decided to look at the entire daisy chain. It was plugged into the following:

Mac Studio (Thunderbolt) ⇨ ThunderBay 8 ⇨ ThunderBay 8 ⇨ Mercury Elite Pro Quad

I changed the daisy chain to:

Mac Studio (Thunderbolt) ⇨ ThunderBay 8 ⇨ ThunderBay 8
Mac Studio (USB-C) ⇨ Mercury Elite Pro Quad.

That seems to be the fix. No unmounted volumes so far...
