Hi,
I'm experiencing severe system lags. For seconds the systems stalls showing a spinning wheel. Suspicion grows in me that my RAID disc is connected to the problem.
The problem occurs even when just opening a small jpg in finder's quicklook preview or other minor tasks like typing a letter in textedit. After more or less seconds or maybe a minute everything's works again as expected. This happens many times a day. After that the system is back and working fast as expected.
What I already tried: 1. installing Ventura from scratch with a new user profile, 2. validating my RAID
I remember having similar issues with my old system before updating from 4 HDDs to the 4 SSDs I'm using now as Stripe Set (RAID 0). It was happening when there was not much space left on the Volume.
My RAID now has a size of 32 TB (4 x 8 TB) with 2 TB free. That can't be the reason, can it?
I'd be happy for any advice, idea or test I could run to track down the problem.
thx Albert
System: macOS 13.1 Ventura, SoftRAID Pro 7.0.1, OWC Thunderbay 4 Mini, 4 x Samsung SSD 870 QVO, Mac mini M1, 16 GB RAM
I do not think this is a hardware issue. Most likely, it is a directory issue. Can you backup, delete the volume, initialize the disks (just in case it is TRIM related, which I doubt), then create the volume again?
If this was caused by damage to the directory, this will fix it.
(SoftRAID cannot erase a APFS volume yet)
Thank you very much for you input. I will give it a try.
