RAID 5 "Degraded - Needs Rebuilding" since upgrading.

Ever since upgrading to Catalina I'm getting a "Degraded - Needs Rebuilding" on my Raid 5 volume.

If I right click on the volume and select "Rebuild", it prompts me for my admin password and then nothing happens.

Two most likely things:
SoftRAID 5.8.1 driver is not loaded
Driver is under quarantine

Run kextstat in terminal
Look through the long list for com.softRAID... and see if 5.6.8, or 5.8.1 is loaded.

Run this command in terminal:
sudo xattr /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext

there should be no output.

Hi. I'm getting the same issue as the thread starter after upgrading to Catalina. I followed the instructions from the last post:

Run kextstat in terminal
>> I see 5.8.1 loaded

Run this command in terminal:
sudo xattr /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext
>>I see the following after running the above command:
com.apple.quarantine

This happens most frequently when you download the SoftRAID DMG from another computer, or copy the application from another computer (or admin account). MacOS automatically quarantines such maneuvers now.

Here is the fix:
Paste the following line into the terminal.app:
sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine
Make sure there is a space at the end, then once again, drop the SoftRAID application into the terminal window and hit enter. The terminal will fill in the actual path to the SoftRAID application, saving you the complication of typing it in.

(the full command should appear something like this if you have SoftRAID XT)
sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/SoftRAID XT 5.8.1/SoftRAID XT 5.8.1.app

Now, paste each of the commands below into the terminal.app:
(depending on what has been installed, some files may not be found, no worry)

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Library/Extensions/OWC_SCSI_Device.kext

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Library/Extensions/OWC_SATA_Command.kext

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Library/Extensions/OWC_SCSI_Device_0E.kext

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Library/Extensions/OWC_SMART_Library.plugin

restart. You can check if you are successful, by using the xattr command again in terminal:
sudo xattr /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext

Thanks. Quarantine seems to be fixed. Now I'm at the same point as the thread starter where the status says rebuilding but I don't see the offset changing. Is this normal?

It should be working now. Check that you do not have optimization set to digital video/audio/photography. Change it to workstation if so.

Otherwise, are you getting a message at mount that the volume is damage and mounted read only?

Re build completed successfully after changing the optimization to workstation. New issue now is that the volume won’t mount. Any ideas?

Thanks.

This must have happened later. Did you restart or crash in the meantime?

When did the volume stop mounting?

Volume now mounts but in read-only mode. I’ve restarted my computer and also reconnected the drive but still mounts in read-only.

Sorry about this. This is one of the problems with HFS, the directories slowly get degraded, then one day, cannot mount, or mount read only as yours.

You need to either
A) backup/restore. Mac OS does not have very good tools for repairing volume directories.
B) run Disk Warrior, if you have access to it, it will be able to repair the directory in a few minutes.

The same issue with "quarantine" when run xattr command in terminal app

Run in terminal the solution (thanks!) and all the fixed commands and now I will run another xattr command in terminal and without any output...

(Before, I download the last SoftRAID XT 5.8.1 and have a license key with my ThunderBay 4 TB3 Purchase. After I restart my MacBookPro 16 Catalina with comand+R in Internet Recovery Mode, run Startup Security Utility and select "none", after restart my MBP16) when restart, install SoftRAID XT 5.8.1 open SotRAID in the menu bar (blue point) and SoftRAID said need install the driver, put my admin account pass and install the driver (I can see the version in menu SoftRAID/about SoftRAID, in the window say Driver v 5.8.1)

I hope SoftRAID runs fine in my Catalina MacBook Pro 16... I NEED runs fine my ThunderBay 4 thunderbolt3 in RAID5, to my inminnent work in the 2020 first days ... I pray to God
