Before committing data and subjecting HDD to a particular RAID config now, I'd like to know of official or unofficial 🙂 guidance as to the lowest 'risk' ie. of data corruption or data loss, source RAID config when converting data to a RAID 6 destination.

I need only SoftRaid's conversion operation risk parameters. Power, HDD &c. are existential and mitigated.

@skyward

you are referring to when we are able to add RAID 6 to SoftRAID?

it will be incredibly well tested and we intend to support RAID 5 to 6. We may also support RAID 4 to RAID 6. Both will be rock solid conversions. We already have this technology in our "fast rebuild" process, where we can track what parts of disks have changed, and only rebuild those. the same process will be used to convert to RAID 6.

What we may not be able to do is convert an 8 drive RAID 5 for example, to an 8 drive RAID 6. that is more complex.
