I was noticing that every time I wanted to copy something from the softraid volume I had to enter my password.  I'm not sure but I think it might be related to the Ignore Ownership of this volume being checked.  This happened by default I didn't change it. I changed my other external drive to Ignore ownership as well and that seemed to fix the issue. I wanted to ask why this was checked by default, and will this cause me any issues having the ownership ignored like this?  Or is this how all external drives should be set? I didn't see anything about this in the support docs.

Ignore ownerships/permissions should be checked on external volumes. MacOS is sometimes inconsistent in how it applies this. Especially when you have multiple accounts, this can get confusing.

there is also the trick to change all ownerships in the get info box (the command line chown works better, but the get info is generally adequate), to set your ownerships consistently, and select "Apply to enclosed items".
