My startup volume fails to open after a restart was requested for SoftRAID from the General tab in Security & Privacy. The thermometer bar slowly progresses to half way, and then halts with an alert window that "there's a problem" and initiates another restart. Disk Utility does not report any problems. Oddly the update was installed when it was first released. Any suggestions?

Boot into internet recovery mode (Assuming intel) and run Disk utility first aid and see if you can repair the volume.
Then if that does not work, startup in verbose mode (command v when you start up) and see what the system is hanging at.
