RAID won't mount

This comes at the tail end of frankly an atrocious experience with OWC products and SoftRaid in general, so I've learned my lesson. My Mercury Pro Elite Quad has probably not worked more often than it hasn't—on my third replacement. For a little while it was working fine, and then I got hit with a MacOS "Can't repair this disk" issue. Swapped out the potentially bad hard drive, and bought DiskWarrior to repair the directory. Once it rebuilt, everything seemed to be fine and I could actually do things with my product. Until after a restart, the RAID disappeared from the Finder entirely. I see it in SoftRaid, it doesn't give me any concerns, but it won't mount at all now. Just hangs when I try it.

the problem with screen captures is I cannot see the cause. Does Disk Warrior see the volume? If it does, scan it and rebuild the directory.

If Disk Warrior does not see the volume, attach a SoftRAID tech support file, and we can take a look.

Attached. Diskwarrior can see the drive but can't mount it either.

@martyr

When you scanned the volume with Disk Warrior, what was the error?

the volume header appears blank, where it points to the location of the directory to the volume.

Did you have a crash? Or was this from a shutdown/restart?

When this happened, were you already on SoftRAID 6.2.1?

@softraid-support This was a normal shutdown/restart cycle. I got the RAID working again on 6.2.1 after I upgraded to Big Sur, so no hardware or software changed as a potential cause.

I can't scan the disk(s) from DiskWarrior. It shows up in the Directory tab but not the Files or Hardware tab (presumably because it isn't mounted.)

All you scan with Disk Warrior is the directory tab. Is it able to rebuild the directory?

@softraid-support

It was able to when I previously used it when MacOS said the volume was damaged, but since it cannot mount it's no longer offering that option.

That does not make sense to me. Please attach a SoftRAID tech support file, so I can see if the volume is "published" or not.

@martyr

This volume is published (as disk8 in low level terms). Disk Warrior will definitely see it. If the volume is very damaged, it may show as "SoftRAID Media", rather than the volume name, but Disk Warrior will see it, and be able to at least attempt to rebuild the directory

Give it another try. Its true that Disk Warrior may not be able to repair this, but it will definitely see it in the pull down list.
