What to do with smaller drives and thunderbays?

I've finally acquired a Flex 8, and also got a 6 bay Thunderbay from the auction site. This will rationalize/ simplify the number of enclosures that I have, whilst getting larger drives will also reduce the number of drives used.

The flipside/ side effect is that I will have a number of Thunderbay 4 and small capacity drives from 2 to 4 that will be surplus to requirements. Is there anything useful that I can do with these please? This is less a support question, and more what other users might be able to suggest please.

I thought you'd say that. I'd have to span a volume across several enclosures if I was going to use Thunderbay 4's with 4TB drives to back up a Flex 8 populated with 12TB drives LOL

@chobochobo

But as secondary backups, to back up certain folders, they would work great. You can set up Carbon Copy Cloner to back up that kind of set up pretty easily.

Yes, I already use CCC to back up my softraid volumes to other softraid volumes. I backblaze my 'vital' files. Would another layer of CCC , ie backup the backups, be excessive?

@chobochobo

What is your data worth? there is no such thing as excessive backups.

You can even store the "excessive" off site, so you have another location and synch them up monthly or so.

Worth is difficult to pin down. I have been thinking about off site. I thought Backblaze included that but can't find it when I looked yesterday.

@chobochobo

What they do have is a "you can send us a drive" policy, and a "we can ship your data back to you on a drive" program, to help users with large amounts of data.
