HI
Received the "Degraded - No Secondary Disk" error for what's supposed to be a Raid 1 Time Machine volume. I see both disks, and two Time Machine volumes. Thought I could use the "Remove Secondary Disk" command. But now each Time Machine volume is noted as a primary disk. They are both internal to a 2010 Mac Pro.

Looking into the SoftRAID log I found the following:

Jul 24 18:34:04 - SoftRAID Driver: One of the SoftRAID disks contains invalid data in the SoftRAID status partition. Please contact SoftRAID technical support at support@softraid.com for help with this disks.

How do I clear the error and return to a Raid 1 configuration?

SoftRAID Lite 5.7.5
Mac OS 10.12.16

First you need to identify which disk Time Machine is using. During the next Time Machine run, try to unmount the two volumes. One should, and one should not. Rename the volume that allows you to unmount it.

Unmount the volume again.

Run Time Machine once more and make sure it completes.

Run SoftRAID and delete this volume.
"add secondary disk" so it is added back to the mirror.
When you are done, "remove missing secondary disk", so the counter is reset.

During the Time Machine run I was able to unmount both volumes. But I also watched which disk was receiving I/O requests during backup prep (disk 2), and it was the only disk to back up.

Is the fact that both disks will unmount during a Time Machine run significant? Or can I proceed with the rest of the instructions as outlined above?

The goal was to figure out which volume Time Machine was writing to. Now you can follow the rest of the instructions.

Otherwise you have to start your Time Machine over, as it would effectively see the other as a different volumes.

good luck!
