My Softraid volume wont mount after attempting to replace a disk, and rebuilding. The message says rebuilding waiting for mount, but it does not mount after 24 hours.

This is a 5 disk 8TB HFS+ (OS-X) volume on a Mac Pro running 10.13.6. Also the volume notation on the SoftRAID app says unmounted and Unknown Format.

I have already rebooted a number of times and I did upgrade from 5.7 to 5.8 just in case that was the issue.

Please help.

Devon

The directory is damaged. This is more serious when the volume shows "unknown format'.

I would remove the new drive. Then get Disk Warrior and run that on the volume. It has a very high chance of being able to recover the volume and your files.

Thanks for the quick reply. Question: I won't hurt anything by stopping the rebuild as it does say "rebuilding , waiting for mount" ?

It also says safeguard enabled.

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response. Quick question....

Should I really remove the drive I tried to add as it's rebuilding. It says

"rebuilding, waiting for mount"
It also says above that "RAID5 - degraded - safeguard enabled"

This is in addition to it saying it's unmounted and unknown format

Thanks.

Please remove the drive. There is no rebuilding when the volume is not mounted in any case.

Then apply Disk Warrior and see if it can repair the directory.

You should probably use the "Preview" and look at the volume that mounts on the desktop under Preview, to be sure you are OK with the results before clicking the "replace" button
