We would need a core dump to investigate, and a SoftRAID tech support file, along with some basic info on what triggers the panic. Chances are this is a panic that needs to be addressed in macOS.

To get a core dump, you need to deactivate SIP temporarily, until you get the next panic.

Startup into internet recovery mode by shutting down.
Hit the power button, then hold it down until you see the options window.
Click options, then continue
Next screen click your startup volume.
Next screen again and enter your password
The macOS recovery screen, go to the startup menu and run the "terminal.app"
Enter:
csrutil disable
It may give you a list of systems if you have more than 1.
If so, select it, then enter y for yes in the next prompt
enter password again
2. Set NVRAM to capture the dump:
run the terminal.app in normal mode.
Paste this command in:
sudo nvram boot-args="debug=0x8c4e"
restart.
3. Next time you panic, or hang, hold on to the power button for 1 second (only).
If the machine restarted from the crash, do this immediately after restart.
4. Wait ten minutes, then use "go to folder" to go here:
/private/var/tmp/kernel_panics

There should be a file. Let me know if it is there, I can tell you how to send it to me. (it will be quite large)

I suspect that this might be related to the issues with Thunderbolt devices disconnecting. After the first panic, I enabled the "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" setting. After the second panic I disabled the "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" setting. It has been stable since then.

I am looking at the firmware update instructions, but they are lacking in compatibility details. It looks like one of the updates is a kernel extension, and I'm hesitant to install this in Big Sur since the firmware update appears to predate Big Sur. I'm trying to get some support from OWC now to see if I can update the firmware.

Well, according to OWC support, this unit would have shipped with the latest firmware, so it seems that the issues with drives disconnecting on sleep isn't fixed with Big Sur and the latest firmware.

I have been getting these frequently as well.

@jeremybrooks

The "put drives to sleep" issue is a known workaround (usually) to the disk ejecting issue, but I wish macOS would fix this.

@ayyildiz

There are many kinds of kernel panics, so post it and we can look. as a txt file is best so it does not fill up the page with user unreadable text.

My kernel panic crashes only happen when the Thunderbolt devices are attached. Without TB devices, I have never seen a kernel panic crash.

@ayyildiz

I don't recognize this panic, but it appears to be in the indexing. Have you tried disabling Spotlight on this volume? and see what happens?

This may require posting to discussions.apple.com
