ThunderBay prepared with version 5, should I recreate volume?

I have a ThunderBay 4 that was shipped with version 5, which obviously doesn't work on my Big Sur machine. I have installed the version 6 beta, and the ThunderBay mounts fine.

My question is: Should I recreate the RAID array with version 6 and reformat before using it for storage? Any reason to do that? Or not to do that? Maybe it should be APFS instead of HFS?

We made no partition map changes from 5 to 6, so any volume created in either, can function fine in the other. (with the exception of RAID 6 volumes, when we add that code back in)

the decision to go to APFS is up to you. On HDD's realize you get a significant performance penalty, in exchange for the APFS benefits.

Thanks for the quick reply. Will I be able to convert a RAID 5 volume to RAID 6 when that feature is available? Or would that require a wipe and restore of the data?

@jeremybrooks

Our goal is to be able to convert RAID 5 to either RAID 6 or 6+ yes. Cannot guarantee it, but it is the objective.
