If you can back it up, make the volume RAID 4.
Remove one disk, connect it so it can mount, then delete the volume, make a RAID 4 volume and it will work.
We will have a beta hopefully soon that we will let users run, until macOS fixes the problem. We have more or less identified the problem in macOS, but do not know how long it will take for macOS to have a fix, so we found a way to work around it (it means being slightly slower driver actions)
Please try the current SoftRAID beta version:
http://www.softraid.com/sr_beta
My recommendation is Uninstall SoftRAID. restart and run SoftRAID and install the driver. before restarting, go to System Preferences/Security to "Allow" OWC as an identified developer. this ensures that macOS actually loads the new driver version.
We believe this beta will fix your problem.
Ok I have installed the new beta, so far so good. I am away for work so I won't be able to test until next week. I will let you know as soon as I do.
Thank you!!!
Well it seems to be working fine again! Thank you!
Is there any way to back to booting off my main drive, and not off the volume that I created?
Thanks again,
Russell
This is along thread, so let me try to remember. You created a new Startup volume to test this adn it is working with 6.2.1 b3?
Can you boot from your other volume, without the disks connected. Then uninstall SoftRAID (utilities menu, best to make sure the new driver is installed), restart, reinstall SoftRAID driver, "Allow" owc in System Preference/Security, then restart.
then try attaching your volume.
So the Beta seems to be working better, but when I bring my laptop back from the road and plug in the thunder bay, it crashes. Same thing when I restart with the thunder bay plugged in.
So when I do either of those things I need to remove a drive, plug in the thunderbay, wait for it to mount, unmount it, turn it off, replace the drive, and turn it back on. Not as bad as having to reinstall MacOS every time, but still not great...
Its not optimal, I completely agree. But there are not many alternatives until we can get this fixed.
I'm having the same issue, and the MacBook crashes even with a drive removed using the beta softraid...
@softraid-support hello - I just upgraded to an M1 macbook pro and having the same issue. As soon as the Thunderbay is plugged in, or the system boots with the TB plugged it, it panics and restarts. I noticed a strange "chirp" coming from the enclosure right as it panics.
Any advice much appreciated.
Try using the beta, it fixes this about 50% of the time.

If this does not fix it, then try removing one disk at startup. Most times you can insert after startup and it does not crash for the session.
If you are getting a panic with a disk removed, send a panic log (best is save it as txt and attach)
@softraid-support thanks. the beta didn't work, but removing the drive did.
Looking forward to getting this one ironed out.
Hi I am still using the v6.2.1 b3, and it is only valid for another 7 days. it is working well, (I still have to remove a drive to mount the tb 4 but otherwise fine). Is there a new version I should upgrade to?
Thanks,
Russell
SoftRAID should have announced b5 by now. Use check for updates.
There was no driver change to this beta, a Disk utility was addressed and we posted it so the old beta would not expire on users.
