@dfortney

I will double check the (intended) timing of alerts also.

@twelvizm

5.8.4 is the last version of all SoftRAID 5 versions.

The current SoftRAID release, 5.8.4, is not compatible with Big Sur. We will be doing public beta's until 6.0 is ready, which could take a month or more longer. New betas will be released as we go, and you will be auto notified through the SoftRAID Monitor.

here is the permalink to the beta: SoftRAID 6 < http://www.softraid.com/sr_beta>

Read the release notes!

Make sure you "Allow" OWC as an Identified Developer in Security Preferences in MacOS when prompted.

@softraid-support I run Mac Pro (2019) with Big Sur. I just installed Beta 6.0.1 b52 so I could install a new Mobius Pro Raid. I have the same problem (no disk icons) now (Feb 2021) as was you were replying to in November

@smotyndu

There is a good chance a minor Big Sur update will fix it automatically. That is what multiple users reported.

@softraid-support Thanks. Big Sur is uptodate (11.2.1) though there's a (11.2.2) installing tonight. In the meantime I'm using mrfearless47's fix

This link for the beta is giving a 404 error. My beta trial expired and now I cannot download the latest beta...

Is it safe yet to create APFS encrypted volumes? I know you've previously said there are bugs Apple needs to fix for this, but that goes back 1-2 years. If it's not safe to create APFS encrypted volumes, could you please explain a little more what has to happen before we can do this? Thank you.

There can be kernel panics with APFS encrypted volumes. We have a bug filed and macOS needs to address it. I am unsure what the technical reason is, that is for engineers, but I see it in testing.

I have a 2016 MBPro and I have two different RAIDs that won't Mount since I've upgraded to Big Sur. I tried the Beta b53, I deleted all my existing extensions, and reinstalled the beta again to get the drivers installed, and still won't mount my RAIDed drives. One is a Mercury Elite, and the other is a Thunderbay 4. Any suggestions?

Ok, got it figured out. Now the RAIDs mount! I did a complete re-install of Softraid beta again. I also reset my SMC and PRAM, and finally, it worked! No icon on my desktop, but that's a small thing compared to being able to access my RAID!

My guess is the "Allow" OWC dialog box was not showing up, so the driver was blocked from loading by macOS. Glad it is working now!

If this has already been reported, I missed it but I noticed an anomaly in the beta 53 display on a late 2012 Mac mini running macOS 11.3 beta 5. Although the array is mounted as reported by Finder and Time Machine, the SoftRAID application reports it as unmounted. (see the attached screenshot) Obviously this is not an earth shattering problem, but it does lead to confusion and question.
