Hi, I updated to Bigsur from Mojave, and since I have a driver issue with softraid 6.0.5 and 2 owc different units. The first one is a thunderbay 3 8x6to jf à nd the second is a Mercury elite pro quad 4x6to hd. Both units are softraid raid 5 volume ( not hardware raid ).

Until I was on Bigsur everything was fine. Since the update i have 12 drives on my desktop, all called « boot OS X » and the volumes do not mount, they both appear in softraid when I open it, with all the hard drives of the raid, the drives are identified, but not there volume. To be able to Gary the volumes back to be accessible I have to uninstall SoftRaid, and reinstall, sometimes it works sometime it does not, and the 12 hard drives are always on the desktop. I decided to not turn off the computer anymore to solve the issue but that’s not a long term one. I spent an hour chatting with OWC tech people and they say that they saw it once already. They could not fix it though despite the multiple tech log reports that I sent them. Anybody else with that issue?

Lets separate the issues. For the boot OSX issue, Are you running Acronis? I think there is an issue there that causes that. Took me a while to figure out it was the common issue.

For the driver loading, welcome to Big Sur.

If you look at your volume tiles and do not see a "disk Identifier", the driver is not loading. (like disk7). You can manually load the driver with this terminal command:

sudo kmutil load -p /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext

(Copy/paste it in)
Note:
The "up" key in terminal will show prior commands, so next time you want to do this, just hit the up arrow and this command will be available without having to enter it.
