Been perusing SoftRAIDs highly confusing website trying to find the Big Sur compatible version of XT and all links seem to take me to the full Pro version. Why do they have to complicate such a simple task so that their customers waste countless hours trying to find what they are looking for?

The last version of XT I was able to track down was an older 5.x which of course is not supported on Big Sur. When I downloading the full version 6.x version it would not accept the XT SN.

Thoughts?

There is no "XT" application, the XT license determines what features are available in SoftRAID, but there is only one version of the application now.

You can go here to see your 5-6 upgrade options:

Ok, so what reason would there be for the XT license not activating a 6.x release?

Version 5 to version 6 is a paid upgrade, it is not free, except if your enclosure is still under warranty.

Our enclosures are purchased brand new as of a few weeks ago.

I think that you were right, I was trying to activate a 6.0 license with a 5.0 key. My bad

Separate and final question, is there any reason why I should not be able to format a RAID5 volume using FileVault? It was not an option when creating the volume (inside SoftRAID) but when using Disk Utility to format, it usually is.

I also noticed that I have to upgrade to 6.2.1 on Big Sur before I could also create the RAID set.

Thank you.

@minorsatellite

Encryption is not supported, because there is still a kernel panic bug in macOS with encrypted volumes, that is many times worse on SoftRAID volumes.

I am guessing that you had a driver mismatch. Another macOS bug is the extensions cache is not reliably updated and probably the older 6.2 driver was still actually loading. (You cannot determine this from the SoftRAID application, which displays the version in /Extensions, but by using kextstat in terminal)
