@danfishbach

No, both Disk Drill and R-Studio allow you to recover only the files/directories you want.

@softraid-support Is there any other software we can use to try to rebuild the directory since DiskWarrior is not doing it?  Short of that, any software to restore but retain directory strucutre?

Disk Warrior is the only HFS file system repair tool I am aware of. There are apps to recover files to another volume, of which in my tests R-Studio and Disk Drill were the best.

After upgrading to 6.2.1 today my HFS+ RAID5 volume no longer mounts. Whenever I try to mount in SoftRAID it sits for a moment then goes back to unmounted without any errors or log messages. Worked fine before upgrading (save for my previously mentioned issue re: not being able to resize the volume.)

@rborkows

I think maybe you missed the step to "Allow" OWC as an identified developer. This has to be enabled every driver update.

Try reinstall SoftRAID driver. wait and see if you get a pop up to go to System Preferences to "Allow" OWC, before restarting. (or go there directly)

@softraid-support Thanks - I thought I did but clearly something didn't work right. While reinstalling the driver I had to jump through the "System Security Policy" hoop and then allow it to rebuild the extensions. Another reboot later everything is back to normal!

Simple tasks have been challenging with macOS. What can we say?

Hi, after several kernel panic crashes I finally ended up with SoftRAID giving the information as per attached. The volume won't mount and seems stuck in the re-build process. The mirror disks seem lost too, is there a way I can rebuild the volume (1+0) without loosing my data? Your help is really appreciated!

@castelfranco

Please attach a SoftRAID Technical Support file and I will take a look.

Thanks, but I guess it's too late. I removed/deleted the volume - as it seemed to be connected to only one drive, created a new volume hoping that it would ask for rebuild or something and now everything's gone. I guess there's no way to restore the data now?

@castelfranco

Ouch, attach a support file anyway, let me look at your chances.

I was fed up with these constant crashes, I was also talking about with a colleague of yours BTW (I have an open ticket since a couple of weeks now).
So I've done something that went wrong this time, but I had succes with last time: i.e. removing one of the system-created volumes, the one that didn't show any memory change in Softraid when adding/removing data, thinking the one showing changes was the "real" volume. I now already began moving back data, however, getting the original data back would be the better option, as the stuff was dispersed over many single disks and some may also be lost. Thanks for your help!

@castelfranco

What I see in the support file is the volume "Media" was created on Feb 19.

Feb 19 17:10:38 - SoftRAID Application: Creating the RAID 1+0 volume named "Media" of size 14.6 TB with the following disks:

I do not see another volume. Your log goes back only to Feb 14. You were having issues with the disks "ejecting" from the Thunderbolt bus. Is that the main issue?

I do not see another volume, however, or what you referred to. You may have deleted your data?

Yes, continuously ejecting the disks and crashing the Mac (Kernel panic). As said, I endend up with 3 volumes for 4 disks, removed the one that looked inactive to me, but then I was left with one volume (instead of two) connected to on disk only (see the pic I've sent before), which said it was rebuilding but didn't make any progress. Finally, in my desparation I removed that one too, because in my limited understanding my data was still somewhere distributed on the 4 disks I thought the RAID could be re-built. Instead it probably re-formatted all disks. I am now trying to recover the data with 3 different programs (Disk Drill, Recoverit...) running simultaneously, will keep and pay the one delivering the best results. Any recommendations from your side? The sofware shows many deleted files, but without the former names, just numbers. Is that normal, will the software fix this during the effective recovery process?

@castelfranco

To be honest, it is going to be very difficult to recover your data. You have to get the correct combination and order of disks.

Create a 2 drive stripe. RAID 10 is 2 drives, striped, then mirrored) Scan. As soon as you get file fragments, preview a smallish JPG. If it is "broken", try a different combination of two disks.

there is a chance this might work.
