I am running an 8-disk certify on a new 64TB ThunderBay 8. About 18 hours into it and verifying, I got a message that SoftRAID had to quit. Upon relaunching it offered to resume but immediately reported four errors on every drive. I am now forced to restart the process. Is there no solution to this? The terminal command seems to have zero feedback so it is impossible to tell if a certify works there too.

Terminal always works, but there is no feedback. The problem is the app is losing contact with the Monitor, and needs to be relaunched. I don't know why it triggered disk errors, that is interesting.

Do the command line and it will take probably a week with 8TB drives, perhaps 5 days. You can get a rough estimate by taking 6 * 8TB (3 read 3 write passes * drive capacity)/average MB/s, which you can assume is 180MB/s (its an average).

@softraid-support I gather that when the command line succeeds, it just returns to the prompt with no message at all. What happens if it encounters an error... is there any message?

I am running this on a MacBook Pro 15" (mid 2014) under 10.14.6 and SoftRAID is the only app running. Screen saver and hard drive sleep are disabled. You really need to add feedback to the terminal app - that can't be more than a day or two of work and would make this process much better. At 8TB taking about 4 days by my math, terminal could report completion in tenths of a percent and just rewrite the line with a time stamp, sector, etc:

We are definitely adding feedback to terminal. We have a full review for Terminal, where we are targeting where we can add additional help, feedback and error messages.

I re-ran the certify in the main app and it was the only thing running. It took about 80 hours, but it went all the way through on a ThunderBay 8 and ThunderBay 4 (two different Macs running only SoftRAID and doing nothing else).

That is another thing that makes the bug annoying and hard to fix. We have a hard time reproducing it, as we run clean systems and it rarely happens on a clean system.

Thanks!
