Detailed Smart Information/drive temps on disks in a RAID (Feature request???)

Is there a way to get more detailed info on the smart status of drives in a RAID? I've always used HWMonitor to get CPU temps, Drive temps, SSD remaining life %, fan and pump status... but the drives in the RAID don't pass smart info to the app.

I'm trying to monitor drive temp readings in a new enclosure to check for possible cooling/air flow problems and I can't seem to figure out a way to get smart status on individual drives in the RAID.

Perhaps this could feature could be integrated into softraid?

I assume you are on Windows? I am not familiar with the various SMART apps but on the Mac, DriveDx seems to have the most features. there are also Mac apps like istat menus which do temperatures, etc.

Overall, we are trying not to add too many features to SoftRAID, and keep it focused on being a great disk driver. SMART is important for managing disks and predicting failures. We made a decision a few years back not to expose SMART parameters not statistically linked to premature failure (i.e, google/backblaze studies). While some SMART data "appears" bad, there is not any statistical evidence that a drive will fail from any other parameter, so we are adopting the simpler is better approach.

I am a proponent of adding more SMART details, and it is on our radar. We will not become a "comprehensive" SMART utility however, as average users want more simplicity, not more technical information. It is a challenge to get the balance correct.

thanks for the feedback.

I am using Mac OS Sierra. I’ve tried DriveDX, it doesn’t show any info on the RAID drives. No programs will give info as the raid drives are only individually visible by SoftRAID.

I understand a lot of the smart data can be misread but being able to see drive temps and if a drive is running hotter than ideal could be helpful to prevent premature drive failure and keeping the raid array healthy.

Even if you don’t allow access to the sensor data, perhaps just a drive temp parameter could be shown in each disk info area.

or (may be asking too much here) a basic and advanced area for smart data.

I want a basic and advanced, but have been rejected to date. as I mentioned I have been advocating this for a while. I have  engineering's ear, but not decisions. ;-)

There is a valid counter point that things become noisy. I have used iStat, DriveDx and for non technical users, way past their tolerance levels. Time will tell what we can add. Right now, priority is on a dozen other features we are working on!
