Why would one check or uncheck this option? Is it just a performance issue? Are there potential problems with some enclosures? I have an OWC 2-slot TB2 enclosure I'm using on a mini 2018, and want to know if I should check that or not. Thanks.

Rebuilds are generally queued on disks with multiple volumes. This avoids the situation where disks are thrashing around, slowing down the overall rebuild times. SSD's do not have this issue. That is the main reason.
