Dear Brains,
I have a Raid 5 array (Pegasus R8 - 32Tb) which is used as my primary data storage of images. I like to keep everything backed upin triplicate so have in turn connected two Sonnet R400Q Fusion enclosures (8 drives - 20Tb total). Using Softraid I was going to uses a Raid 5 - Raid 5 back up but the Sonnet does not allow this so I simply want to do a mirror back up from the Pegasus drives to the ones in the Sonnet. I thought it would be simple to set up all 8 disks as one massive disk and simply do a direct mirrored copy from the Pegasus but when I select the 8 disks in the Sonnet and try and set up in any of the Raid options available or No Raid the maximum volume size is 14Tb. If I select No Raid it simply takes the size of the first disk 2TB.
How can I combine the available disks to allow me 20Tb space and do a mirrored copy from the Pegasus enclosure?
Thanks
Chris
If you have 8 2TB drives then the largest volume you can create is 16TB stripe, or 14TB RAID 4/5.
If you have a mix of 3TB and 2TB drives, the same will apply, as all partitions in a RAID volume will be the same size, so the volume maximum size is limited by the smallest drive.
